I'm back =)

Friday, February 25, 2011
I've been on tumblr for years now, and I hate to admit that I've abandoned my blogspot for so long.. but now I'm back =)

Why?

For a couple reasons. First of all, blogging on tumblr just doesn't seem appropriate all the time. It gets reblogged onto my facebook (which I do appreciate but not all the time. I like to be able to vent without everyone seeing it ;) Plus, Having a space on blogger makes me feel like I'm actually journaling, not just posting random tidbits that make me laugh/reflect.

Secondly, I feel more comfortable adding loads of pictures and making photolog entries on here =) Flickr has limits (I didn't renew my Pro Account since I wasn't taking as many pictures... at least until Mia was born haha)

Oh and for anyone who used to follow me and hasn't been updated, I am now a mommy =) And oddly enough, the title of my last blog entry is [MIA].. and my daughter's name is Mia haha

So.. I'm proud to introduce you to my beautiful baby girl
Mia Charlize Tungol

She was born on October 27th, which puts her at 4 months old on Sunday =) It's been a crazy 4 months since that day, but I absolutely love being a mother and wife to the two most important people of my life. Right now she's sleeping peacefully, and I'm taking a break from laundry and cleaning for a little breather!

Anyway, I'll post more photos and such soon.. I'm glad to be back on here.. I'll still have my tumblr account, but blogger is my home again. =)

5 Lazy Ways to Simplify Your Days

Saturday, September 05, 2009

^ how do you keep a calendar so EMPTY?! ^

StumbledUpon this article that, as simple as it is, was like clouds parting to let sunshine in my life..

I've been saying how hectic my schedule is nowadays, but I'm thinking, I could clear things up a bit..

This semester is going by great so far though.. I'm not only keeping my head above water in my classes.. I'm actually getting ahead! My commitment to work is getting a little rocky though.. and I'm kind of worried about it.. At the same time, I know that if I focus more on work, I'm going to mess up with school like I have in years past.

Today is a good day. =) AND I managed to find time to buy JJ some lunch =)

fresh reminder

So I spent a good hour with a friend of mine today.. I don't ever really talk to him too much, mainly because I never realized we had anything in common. He's a big time basketball player, and I'm definitely not. haha

Anyway, we picked up his girlfriend from the airport today and I learned from the car ride home that they hadn't seen each other in 3 months. He's been busy in the Philippines and she's been home in Florida with her family.

The INSTANT they saw each other as I pulled into the "arrivals" section of O'Hare, they were both ecstatic! The whole car ride, they held hands, her arms reaching around the seat separating them. They called each other baby and just shared how their day went (being a super lazy fatty, I was exhausted just LISTENING to the conditioning drills they both did today.. who wakes up at 6am to play basketball - for fun?!) But despite the contrast in our daily lives, it reminded me about how happy I was whenever JJ and I spend just days apart from each other.. actually even just one night alone, I am just as excited to hear him walking down the stairs in the morning.

I'm aware how (overly) dramatic my last post was.. but not to worry. I am still very much in love with my baby =)

It's just a very rough patch at the moment.. focusing on money, school, work, and each of our own personal time has really fried the two of us this semester.. things will get better eventually though :)

i give up

Monday, August 31, 2009
i don't know how to keep him happy anymore. i don't know how to make him realize im not happy anymore. i don't know what to do to make things easier anymore. i don't know what to do to stop crying. i don't know how to convince myself that he still loves me the same way.. he still considers me one of his priorities..

i'm just done.. i am so very much done.

Generation Confused

Friday, August 07, 2009
Hello my name is Justine, and I am generation confused. Despite how much YOUNGER I look than my age, I act much older than I really am. I don't go out drinking much, and when I DO go to the occasional bar or club, it's mainly because my friends want to go or there's nothing else open and I don't want to go home yet. But at the same time, I would much rather spend a quiet night in with JJ, watching TV or a movie, curled up on the couch than going out and spending money on booze.

Don't get me wrong, I used to party a LOT.. I used to love the feeling of losing myself to the music and girly mixed drinks (which later switched to beer because it was the cheapest way to get drunk haha). But I feel like I'm past all that.. I honestly feel the whole "I'm getting too old for this" vibe already. It's like the party scene was all just a quick phase (read: 2 years) for me.. and now I'm just.. done.

Moreover, ask me who my favorite musical artists are. Even though I still greatly appreciate people like Lauryn Hill, Jason Mraz, Michael Jackson and other talented contemporary artists, my absolute favorite tunes are by Michael McDonald, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Benet.

The only problem with acting older than I am is that I don't have the education and career that could support any "grown up" decisions that I want to be making. I have bad credit (so I guess that's classified under grown up right? lol) , I'm super broke (think college-student-broke), and I still live at home with my parents because of that.

I'm dying to move out.. and what frustrates me more is that there are kids much younger than me who already have their own apartments or condos, located in my dream locations! I'm also super excited to have kids (yes, go ahead. try to scold me. I've heard it already. Don't worry, I'm not pregnant.), but I know that I can't because (1) how could I supportand be held responsible for another human being when I can barely take care of myself (but honestly, I know that I could support myself better if I didn't have to take care of my parents too) and (2) I think know JJ isn't ready to be that responsible yet. (and that right there is a whole new blog in itself)

I think that's why I absolutely love the movie 13 Going on 30.. if the title were only altered to 22 Going on 30, it would define the whole idea I'm going for here. I look at women in magazines, on the streets, and I think to myself that someday I'm going to be as successful, as stylish, and organized as these women.. I'm going to be a great mom and my kids will grow up to be as obedient as my brother and I were (NOT like the crazy brats whom I observe at work!).. and someday I'm going to be a woman that girls will look up to the same way I look up to many women today.

Only problem is, I'm still stuck in a position that is halfway-grownup, halfway-childish.. and I'm not sure how to fully grow up yet =(

bye bye july =(

Saturday, August 01, 2009
Holy cow, is it August already?? I'm starting to think how the rest of the world is thinking: summer is flying by so quickly. Actually, it feels like this whole YEAR is zipping by me much too quickly..

I'm considering all the things I have yet to accomplish this year, and realize I've only got 5 more months til 2010!

Sooo.. list time.

Things to Do Before 2010: (edit: sadly I'm compared this list with a list I made at the beginning of the year and had to add a lot more lol)
  • Start/finish reading Harry Potter books (yes, I know, I'm about 2304798 years late on this fad)
  • Lose weight (actually, I'm realistically on that road already, but I just want to reach my goal before summer of NEXT year - cuz this year's billion food adventures just left me no choice but to gain at least 20 lbs hahaha)
  • Get serious about cooking - this includes checking out culinary schools and programs at my community college =)
  • Blog more often
  • Enhance my music collection; my DVD collection is pretty strong now, so it's time to move on to music!
  • On that note: buy a new iPod.. my 2gb sucks. haha
  • Sox game!
  • Print pictures for framing; yeah this one I've been meaning to do since my BIRTHDAY (and that was in March lol)
So actually the list isn't very long at all.. so I guess it's do-able.. Here's to the final 5 months of the fastest year of my life!

03.2010

Saturday, July 25, 2009

I cannot WAIT until March 2010! I'm reading the novel now then watching the Disney rendition after I finish the book.. I know, I'm kinda nerdy by doing all this...

On another note, I'm sooo hooked on all choreo by Rino (boogiezone).. look her up ;)

Here's a video of her collaboration with BBoy Legacy:

criticism

Sunday, July 12, 2009
I've been having some major bouts of low self-esteem and confidence and I'm really not sure why.. I mean, I know it's because of the weight gain, but still.. I feel like I really should just suck it up, know I am who I am, but it still gets to me.

Today, however, JJ told me he still finds me beautiful.. and a good friend of mine told me I was prettier than one of our other friends (who is UBER confident to the point of almost cockiness).. and when I heard both of those compliments today.. it just really made me feel like those extra few pounds just disappeared...

It's nice to know that not everyone in the world is judging you. It got me thinking about how critical we are about ourselves (especially women) every day.. I know that I have a bad habit of just staring at the mirror and analyzing how much weight I've gained, how many inches have been added, how many stretch marks are now suddenly appearing.. and I know it isn't a healthy habit.

Sigh. I need motivation... I need a partner in this.. It's so hard to STAY motivated when others around me don't share the same goals..

blah. I need help.

quick rant.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009
I'm heartbroken. I miss you.. I miss how we used to be... I miss how you used to appreciate me more.. I miss being spoiled (not with materialistic things... with love).. I miss being wanted.. I miss being confident.. I miss the butterflies.. I miss how you used to RESPECT me...

Things have changed. In a sense, you stopped treating me like a girlfriend and you've started looking at me as your wife, and it's not always the prettiest picture to imagine. You expect things from me, yet when I expect things from you, I get whining.. I get procrastination.. I get a "maybe" or even a "no".

I can't bring it up to you because I know I will cry... and when I get emotional, I won't be taken seriously... and you might leave me.

And I can't handle that either. So I don't know what to do.

I'm in so much pain.

She was a lovely girl.

Monday, June 22, 2009
"Joe had never thought he was going to get married. Had been quite happy living the quintessential bachelor lifestyle, but by his early thirties he'd started to think it might be quite nice to have some permanence, someone to come home to, to look after him.

The problem was that the girls he went out with were about as far away from wife material as you could possibly get. Yes, they looked great. Tall stunning blondes, the occasional brunette or redhead, they were all polished to perfection, but were so cold, so brittle, Joe sometimes thought that if he bent them the wrong way they might snap.

They were women who were waiting for a rich husband to provide them with a lifestyle their beauty had led to believe they could expect. They had no careers, avoided the news as if they could catch something nasty from it, couldn't cook, didn't clean, had never ironed a thing in their lives ("Darling, if God had meant us to iron, he wouldn't have invented dry cleaners"), and had a deep-rooted fear of marrying a man who couldn't afford a "woman that does"

They expected certain things of Joe - dinners at the Ivy and Hakkasan, nights out at Atticus and Home House, the odd treat from Harvey Nicks - and in return they gave him unlimited performance sex, little pressure (these girls knew that the best way to hook their fish was to let the line run as long as possible), and the guaranteed envy of every man he knew. It was only once they started expecting commitment that Joe would turn around and tell them in the nicest way possible that they'd had a wonderful time together, but that it wasn't meant to be, and on he would go to his next conquest.

He knew he wasn't going to find the woman he would marry in the treandy bars, restaurants and clubs he frequented, but there was something about glossy, streaky blond hair, a leg clad in Wolford stockings, breasts pushed up in a La Perla that he couldn't resist.

And then he met Alice. Alice who turned scarlet when he said her name, who rememebered him from school, even when he had no recollection of ever meeting her. Alice who had loose mousy curls and didn't wear a scrap of makeup. Who wore cheap black leggings and baggy shapeless sweaters to discuise her curves. he wouldn't normally have looked twice at a girl like Alice, but he was amused by the way she blushed every time he looked at her, and there was something very sweet about her and sweetness was not a character trait he was used to in women.

She was sweet, and she was grateful, which in turn made Joe feel generous and kind, rather like a benefactor. She didn't expect anything of him other than his company, and when he gave her what she wanted she seemed in a state of permanent disbelief that he would be with a girl like her.

Plus, he realized very quickly that Alice had a huge amount of potential. She was a lovely girl, she could cook fantastically, [and] she'd look after him."

new hobby?

Friday, May 22, 2009
In the past year, I've developed a number of hobbies / collections that I still am absolutely hooked on:
  • photography
  • baking
  • scrapbooking / card making
  • vinyl toys (this is slightly diminishing with every paycheck that needs to go to other purposes & hobbies lol)
But now I'm truly considering adding something new to the mix..
Sewing.

Why?
  • Because I would like to own clothes and purses and other cute items that no one else can find.
  • Because I'm cheap.
  • Because I've pondered the idea of uploading my own products on etsy :)
  • Because when we finally start having kids, I want to be able to make them clothes ;) [which, I'm sure, as they get older, they will hide under the bed]
With that said, I kind of need to start LEARNING how to sew.. and how to follow patterns.. and how to get creative.. yes, yes, baby steps.. baby steps..

I'll probably check out JoAnn Fabrics and other hobby stores (of which I am definitely a regular).. or maybe even see if they offer anything at the community colleges around my area..

hmmm... hopefully it's not that hard :o)

Work Rants

Thursday, May 07, 2009
So, I'm all for saving money and can definitely say I struggle with it often.. but there are some patients that come to our store that drive me INSANE with their ridiculous financial solutions..

For example.. we have one patient who is on public aid (ILMED).. generally, all generics are sold at no charge, and preferred brand names (those that do NOT have a generic available and are considered common medications) are $3. Well, today, her son (about 20-21 yrs old) comes to pick up the medications and I tell him his total for THREE prescriptions is $3. The response I receive: "WHAT?! What do you MEAN it costs money. three DOLLARS!? She don't give me no money. Shoooot" and then he walks away. He EXPECTED three medications to be free..

wtf.

The patient after him paid $40 for one medication, which he receives on a monthly basis. And he always has a smile on HIS face when we see him.

Don't get me wrong, I know some people really do struggle with money and saving $3 here and there is a huge deal.. but I also know that that's not the case with many of our customers.

Oh, and that guy came back in an hour. Handed me his $3... in quarters, and said something smart like "here ya go. yo bus money"...

There are definitely some new demographics coming into the pharmacy nowadays.. and I'm not sure I'm enjoying the change. =/

Courage

COURAGE is not the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all.

random rant

Friday, May 01, 2009
The other day, I had one of our regular elderly customer come in.. He's about 80 years old, and he's the sweetest man ever. He lives alone (widower) and is pretty independent.. Well, when he came in, he was obviously very much in pain and a little upset.. I asked him if he was okay, and he replied:

"You'll never believe it. Over the weekend, I was rear-ended at a stoplight. A 15year old girl with a permit didn't brake in time. Now I'm driving this new rental car and there are so many buttons I barely know how to drive it!"

He left, walking timidly, relying on the cart he was pushing for stability. As he left, I couldn't help but feel super upset.. I felt so bad for what he had to go through, especially since he takes care of himself and doesn't seem to have anyone else to help him. At the same time, I hope that girl knows how much trouble she's in. She was driving ALONE with a permit. Yeah.. I hate high schoolers.. I know it's a pretty ignorant thing to say.. I know it's a stereotype to think all high schoolers are immature.. I know there are exceptions..

But this wasn't an exception. And it's just another reason why I hate when high schoolers think they own the world and can do what they want. Poor Mr. (ins pt's last name for privacy). I hope he's feeling better. :(

6. In the Miss USA pageant, Miss California was asked; "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?" and her answer was; "Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," Carrie said to a mix of boos and applause. "No offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised and that's how I think that it should be between a man and a woman." Do you think that cost her the crown?

probably.. but then again, I really don't know how everyone else would react to this.. In my opinion, as long as a pageant contestant can state her own beliefs in an educated manner, they're good to go.. She kind of went around the question and just stated her belief on same sex marriage. I don't really know how the Miss USA pageant works, but if there IS a voting system, I definitely would not have voted for her.

I have no wall calendar this year :( But I DO have awesome wallpaper: cupcakes :D

13. Are you superstitious?

definitely.

LIZARD. omg a snake would give me a heart attack for sure!

I can't say that I ever saw any changes, mainly because when it happened, I was too young to know how schools WERE running..
